I'm a big advocate of ensuring people retain their individuality in organisations so really like the concept of a holobiont. It would be interesting if a study was done (unless it has already?) on how much potential (of humans, the organisation, society etc.) is lost or suppressed as a result of organisational assimilation...
Brett, I haven't come across any studies like this. One difficulty, I suppose, is measuring the counterfactual of lost potential. There is probably adequate crossover with personality suppression studies and maybe some social physics work to draw some inferences though. I'll have a look around and see what I can find.
